The Meaningful Moments I Look For as Family Event Photographer
As a family event photographer in Seattle, I know capturing alllll the moments at your event; big, small and everything in between is crucial! After many years of experience with lots of different kinds of events, I know exactly what to look for to be able to give you a full document of your milestone event so you will remember all the moments years from now.
The process of planning with you for your event starts with talking over your plans. We’ll talk about your VIP guests and family members that need to be captured with group photos, the big events, the speakers, special ceremonies within the event and anything else that you have planned.
We will talk about timeline and anything particular you want documented that I need to pay special attention to. I will scout the location if I haven’t worked there yet and will make contact with your venue manager introducing myself and making sure I arrive early to set up and am ready for your family’s arrival.
THE FLOW OF THE DAY - THE BIG EVENTS!
During our planning process, we will talk over the key events of the day and the way the day will flow. This helps me to know when to be prepared, and where to be to capture the big main events. For example, if I am working with a family for their teen’s Mitzvah and there is a Hora dance planned, knowing that it will take place after dinner will give me the prep time I need to be in the right place at the right time, and to coordinate with the DJ.
The structure of the day is the first place I start when I begin my prep to make sure I know how the event is going to flow.
LET ME SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF!
CAPTURING ALL THE GOOD STUFF IN BETWEEN THE BIG STUFF.
The small stuff is what makes your event unique & helps tell the story of your day. I pride myself on being an intent & active observer at the events I cover. Are the two littlest cousins dancing wildly on the dance floor? I am there capturing it. Is Uncle George sitting laughing with his lifelong friends? I’m on it. Is Nana shedding a tear as she takes in the slide show? I see it!
As the host of the event, you are going to miss some of the fun little moments because you’re busy entertaining your guests!
My goal is to capture all the beautiful little moments happening all around us. Those moments contribute to the memories we are building so you get a rich, full picture of the event as a whole. These are the images that will spark the memories you’ll hold dear for years to come.
THE DETAILS MATTER!
You work really hard to make your event special. So much thought and care go into the details for your event and those details should be documented! The flowers, the table arrangements, and the special touches you plan to personalize the experience for your guests are an important part of the story of your event. The details fill out your image gallery with context and are a really fun way to help you remember the event long after it is over.
Every event has a rhythm. As an experienced event photographer in Seattle, I have learned how to be fully in the mix of your event, observing, moving around and being right in the action with your guests. Being in the right place at the right time to capture the big parts, the small parts and the details of each event is crucial to making sure your final images show the full picture of the event.
