How often should you update your business headshot? | Seattle Headshot Photographer

These days we have so many mediums available to help promote our businesses; link’d in, websites, Instagram to name just a few. All of these mediums require a photo. How you present yourself to the world is an important part of your brand and your business. You want to look professional, but you also want your photos to show off that special something that makes you YOU! You want to stand out and be unique.

So, what’s a busy business person to do when it comes to keeping your business photos current? Here are my top tips on the when, how and why of updating your business images.

How often should I update my headshots?

The general rule of thumb is to update your images every 2 years or so. Because there are multiple places you need images for your business, book a headshot session that gives you a lot of bang for your buck. Get a standard portrait that shows you simply and then get some variations of that showing you with a change of wardrobe, a full body shot or varying locations.

Change your look, change your headshots!

This one seems obvious, but it is important. Have you lost or gained weight? Dramatically changed your look? Had any specific facial changes like cosmetic surgery? If you no longer look like your most current photos for whatever reason, it’s time to get new ones! Photos have become a large part of our business identity so you want people to easily recognize you from your photos when they do business with you!

Branding and Brand identity is more important than ever!

These days, people want to connect with you when they do business with you. Headshots should reflect how you want to portray yourself to the world. They don’t have to be staid and traditional (Unless your company requires it) Book a session that will give you the more traditional headshots but also get some lifestyle images to fill out a portfolio of business images you can use for all the applications you need them for.

Work with a photographer that understands your vision & your business.

When getting photos for something specific like your business, it is important to work with a photographer that takes the time to understand how you want to present yourself in your business world. Wardrobe and location are two important parts of your images that help relay who you are. If you own your own business you might have more leeway to show off your personality versus working for a company where the images need to be more conservative and cohesive. Whatever the vision is, make sure you & your photographer have a conversation about it and that you are working together to create images that fulfill all your business headshot dreams!
